The opportunity to take equity in a wholly owned Australian company has convinced former Fore country manager Grant Morrison to shun big vendor offers and join emerging network integrator FTA Solutions.
While FTA Solutions managing director Charles Spooner, also a former country manager of Fore Systems, admits to being "small fry", he is assembling a team that would be the envy of much larger organisations. Fore Systems' southern region pre-sales support engineer Graham Abbott has also joined FTA following the decision by Fore to shut down its Melbourne operation.
"I feel very, very lucky to have the guys we have," Spooner said.
"The sad part about this is we've turned over much of the original Fore staff. But we really needed new talent and now. For the size of the organisation we are, we've got one of the best teams in the country."
Spooner still has his eye on three "high-profile people" he wants to join FTA.
Morrison said it was a unique opportunity to "join a team of successful people who have all been in the industry a long time and who now have a stake in a company that is uniquely Australian.
"The set of skills here parallel that of any organisation around."
Morrison added that since joining FTA two weeks ago he has been out knocking on doors and that customers appreciate the fact that the company is Australian. "Any true-blooded Australian business would prefer to support another Australian business," he said. "It really does hit a nerve."
