Australian-based specialist software developer Forge Information Technology has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with networking vendor Alcatel.
Working directly with carriers and third-party vendors, the agreement will see Forge develop software modules that interface third-party equipment with Alcatel's ALMAVision INM Network Management solution.
Alcatel's ALMAVision INM offers cross-domain and domain management for voice and data networks. Forge's software provides the interface between the domain manager layer and the sub-domain network management of the third-party infrastructure within a network.
The agreement evolved from two directions, said Peter Rossiter, Forge's managing director. He said that Forge's strong alliance with Telstra, created through building the telco leading edge solutions, meant that the migration of carriers to IP was "grist in the mill" for Forge.
Rossiter said that location also played a role in securing the alliance. Located at the Australian Technology Park in Sydney, Forge is "just down the road from Alcatel" said Rossiter. "We sort of did a pincer move on them."
With experience in system integration, Rossiter claims "few companies have our pedigree, our experience and our history with telecommunications". As such, Forge was the logical choice, believes Rossiter.
Rossiter told ARN the alliance will see the door opened to Alcatel's global presence, "piggy-backing" the networking vendor's market reach.
