Internet company LibertyOne has launched its online retail business, uBid, in New Zealand, but consumers are still waiting for a customised site.uBid is an online retail store where the customer sets the price they are willing to pay for a product using an auction format. New Zealand customers visiting http://www.ubid.co.nz will only have access to products available on the uBid Australia Website (http://www.ubid.com.au) and will compete with Australian customers for products, officials said.
An additional feature for New Zealand customers will be access to a currency converter, since all bids are made in Australian dollars. A spokesperson from LibertyOne said there are plans to offer a customised New Zealand service eventually.
The New Zealand operation will be managed by Chris Hitching, uBid's general manager, Australia and New Zealand.
New Zealand is the second market for LibertyOne to launch uBid since reaching an exclusive agreement with uBid.com in July last year. uBid.com.au was launched in Australia in October, and products sold on the site include computer products, consumer electronics, sporting goods and homeware, with suppliers including Dell, IBM, Philips and Sony.
The company has plans to launch in nine other countries in the Asia-Pacific, the spokesperson said.
