The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has denied reports that it has formed a negative view of the merger between Telstra and OzEmail.
The ACCC is considering the anti-competitive impact of the $300 million acquisition which would see Australia's largest Internet service provider, Telstra, purchase the second largest.
Lin Enright, ACCC's PR director, would not verify reports this morning that indicated the watchdog was planning to reject the partnership.
The investigation is continuing with the ACCC still receiving information from market participants, she said.
Enright would not confirm if a formal statement on the matter would be released later today.
According to reports this morning, Telstra requested a decision from the ACCC by the end of today because its exclusive bid for OzEmail is due to expire this week.
