Cisco's serious foray into the small and medium business market is paying handsome dividends with that section of the networking company growing over 100 per cent in the 1998 fiscal year.
Sales to small and medium businesses now account for about 25 per cent of Cisco's business in Australia and is attended to by over 1000 resellers around the nation.
Cisco formed a separate SME business unit in 1997, which has now grown to 20 members.
More recently, Cisco launched a Web site targeting small and medium businesses. The site provides information on how to leverage the Internet as a business tool to extend market presence, improve customer service and communications and streamline administrative processes.
Regional manager of the division, Liz Lawson, said: "More and more small and medium business owners are seeing the potential of the Internet and networked applications to enable them to compete effectively against larger competitors. The challenge for us is to help small and medium businesses realise their potential, in conjunction with Cisco's accredited and authorised resellers."
