Vendor opens gateway to Amiga's revival

Does anyone remember Amiga? Reports from the US indicate that direct-selling vendor Gateway is close to announcing a return to market for the Amiga brand and operating system it purchased in 1997.

Sources indicate the once-prominent brand and operating system which collapsed under the emerging Microsoft dominance is looking at coming back with a host of new and interesting hardware.

It has been suggested Gateway is giving Amiga significant personnel resources and is working on Linux-based initiatives powered by Motorola's and IBM's PowerPC G3. It is tipped that these will not be PC devices but more along the lines of budget Internet enabled handhelds, set-top boxes.

A local Gateway spokesperson said comment was not possible because no-one in the office knew anything about it. "We haven't had any feedback from the States on this matter," the spokesperson said.
