Compuware, the $US1.6 billion a year client/server development technology vendor, said last week it is buying IT services vendor Viasoft for $164 million, or $9 per share.
Viasoft's suite of products and services -- including a new transformation product for IBM's MVS Cobol applications -- will join Compuware's testing and implementation offerings, the companies said.
Viasoft's services and software are designed to enable enterprises to manage and evolve their IT assets. Compuware is seeking to purchase with cash a majority of Viasoft's outstanding shares. Viasoft's shares rose 35 per cent late last week on the news to $8.50 per share.
