Online payments affirm e-commerce strategies

Online bill payments are expected to boom over the next six months, according to the latest online readership survey, which is likely to warm the hearts of the IT-industry's e-commerce proponents.

43 per cent of respondents report they have bought products or services over the Internet, while 66 per cent who use the Internet to purchase products also expect to pay their bills online in the next six months.

APT Strategies' Australian online readership survey, comprised of 13,100 weighted respondents, also reveals the average online shopper is around 30 years old, male, wealthy, and earns close to $70,000 a year.

Men are predominantly interested in business and news sites, while women prefer travel and leisure Web sites.

Other results reveal 45 per cent of respondents have been on the Internet for over 18 months, 70 per cent access the Internet daily, 23 per cent are over 45 years old, 30 per cent earn less than $30,000 and 40 per cent work in private
