E-commerce adds 50 per cent to IT tab

Worldwide IT spending is expected to rise 50 per cent to $US3.3 trillion by 2002, fuelled by e-commerce initiatives that are expected to account for up to half the tab, according to research from GartnerGroup in Stamford, Connecticut.

Information technology spending this year is expected to peak at $US2.2 trillion, with 40 per cent of that related to year 2000 costs.
