Cisco fends off IBM at the battle of St George

Cisco Australia is on the verge of announcing its latest high-profile networking deal, this time defeating IBM to win a networking contract with St George.

ARN understands Com Tech is tipped as Cisco's most likely channel suitor, but some industry sources suggest this aspect of the deal is not yet finalised.

According to industry sources, who requested anonymity, Cisco made a last-minute attempt to undercut a bid by IBM's networking hardware division.

The contract is believed to be worth around $5 million in what a number of industry sources believe was a concerted attempt by St George to negotiate a heavy discount.

Executives from IBM, Cisco and St George were not able to respond to interview requests by ARN's deadline.
