Lucent outlays $15m for customer care centre

Lucent Technologies launched its $15 million Asia-Pacific NetCare Service Centre in Sydney's North Ryde last week, billed as the first of its kind for the company in the region.

The service centre will act as a customer support hub for the Asia-Pacific region, after the purpose-built Sydney site was chosen over Hong Kong, Singapore and Melbourne because of access to better staff and infrastructure.

Telco reseller and service provider Macquarie Corporate Telecommunciations has signed up as the vendor's first big NetCare customer.

Lucent reports the new centre offers end-to-end networking services, which includes consulting, installation, integration and network management capabilities.

The NetCare Centre was officially opened by Lucent's CEO and president, Mike Butcher, who said in a company press statement that Lucent's Bell Labs research arm is a significant investor in NetCare's research projects.

"NetCare has the people, the systems and the expertise to design, install, support and manage any multi-vendor communication network," he said.
