Blue Mountains City Council ~ site profile

Blue Mountains City Council

What it is: A community Web site that incorporates a range of online services such as the City library catalogue, a community information database, reports on the council's activities, tenders and vacancies, tourist information and an interactive map search.

Who developed it: The developers were chosen under government contract. Eight government suppliers applied for the contract. The site was developed by Jadco Pty Ltd in association with Guava Interactive. According to Paul Hamilton, applications analyst with Blue Mountains City Council, Guava was chosen for the contract primarily "because of the provision of Administration Centre software which allows Council staff members across the organisation to maintain their content on the Web site", but also because of its graphic design capabilities and competitive pricing.

Tool used to develop the site: Cold Fusion SiteVine.

Development time: Three months.

Traffic: 16,000-24,000 hits per week.

Cost of development: $19,450.

Hot tips: The council has set up a Web-cam that uploads different images of the Blue Mountains every 30 minutes. It is expected that the site will soon enable members of the community to pay their parking fines online.
