In a move designed to develop a full-service portfolio across the information technology and telecommunications market, Australia's third-largest telecommunications company, AAPT, last week announced the acquisition of electronic commerce specialist AT&T EasyLink Services (ELS) Australia.
To be led by AT&T ELS' current management team, the new company will work under the name of AAPT@commerce to deliver business-to-business e-commerce solutions to the Australian market in conjunction with AAPT-owned ISP connect.com.au.
"This acquisition is the latest milestone in AAPT's strategy to rapidly bring to market major innovations and services that build on our own infrastructure and capabilities," AAPT's group director for strategic development, Steve Picton, commented.
"AAPT@commerce will be the platform for our ongoing e-commerce services in the business-to-business sector, the most sustainable and highest growth area," he said.
Previously owned by AT&T, Qantas and Computer Sciences Corporation, AT&T ELS will bring several years of experience to the alliance that is poised to propel AAPT high onto the Australian e-commerce scene.
