Sony founder Morita dies at age 78

Sony announced on Sunday the death of Akio Morita, the Japanese consumer electronics giant's legendary founder and honorary chairman.

Aged 78, Morita died of pneumonia on Sunday morning at the Tokyo Saiseikai Central Hospital, survived by his wife Yoshiko, two sons and a daughter, the company said in a statement.

A private wake was held on Monday and a private funeral service took place yesterday, Sony said. The company will at a later date announce when a public service will take place.
