Lycos to shoot the Messenger

Lycos plans to offer users a co-branded version of America Online (AOL's) Instant Messenger chat software, the companies said last week.

AOL Instant Messenger, called AIM, will be on Lycos in the clubs and chat areas, as well as other parts of the network. Lycos will promote the co-branded AIM version in its registration process and also intends to develop its own customised AIM, according to a written statement from Lycos and AOL.

Lycos owns the Lycos Network, a set of Web sites that include search locations, homepage building, navigation and news, and has 32 million registered users.
