MS moves direct in US, but committed to channel locally

Despite moving to a direct selling model in the US, Microsoft will continue to distribute its products locally through the channel.

A spokesperson for Microsoft Australia said there are no plans to move to the direct model which has been adopted in the US.

In August this year, Microsoft began selling some software and hardware to US customers direct through its online store, www.microsoft.com.

First launched in March, the Web site originally supported four resellers - CompUSA, CDW, Insight and Beyond.com, but was relaunched in August minus the resellers, according to a report in online news service Theregister.co.uk.

Local Microsoft officials were unable to comment on the selling model adopted in the US.
