Red Hat Customer Tour Focuses on Asia Pacific with Oracle and Intel

 • 29 September, 2004 10:38

Sydney, September 29, 2004 - Red Hat, the world's premier open source and Linux provider, today announced a seventeen-city regional tour to meet, educate and present to the IT and business community across Asia Pacific. The tour, co-sponsored with Oracle and Intel Corporation, will showcase how the pieces of the open source architecture puzzle fit together and how to get the most out of an open source investment. In Australia, the tour will be stopping at Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney.

Each of the events will feature presentations by Red Hat executives and partners on open source architecture, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat Desktop, Red Hat Network, clustering and storage, Oracle 10g, the price and performance benefits of Intel-based server platforms and industry-specific solutions. Open forums of discussion to communicate with local and international representatives from Oracle, Intel and Red Hat will be encouraged for all attendees.

Red Hat’s open source architecture is all about giving customers the choice and flexibility they need in putting together an IT infrastructure. The goal of open source architecture is to provide a series of standard, open source middleware and horizontal technologies that can be used by customers and partners, extending the benefits of open source beyond the operating system.

“The Red Hat Asia Pacific Tour gives our enterprise customers the chance to hear about the opportunities and advantages open source can bring to Australian enterprises directly from Red Hat,” said Gus Robertson, Vice President South Asia Pacific, Red Hat. “By involving our collaborators such as Oracle and Intel, customers also benefit from hearing how major IT industry players are putting their trust and dollars behind open source solutions.”

Red Hat has already displayed its commitment to the Asia Pacific region through initiatives like the Linux Enterprise Applications Porting (LEAP) centre with Oracle. The centre, based in Singapore, was established with the goal of providing customers with as many options as possible when constructing their open source architectures. The LEAP centre will assist Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and Systems Integrators (SIs) to port, optimise and certify their solutions on Linux and will help to accelerate adoption of enterprise Linux solutions in Asia Pacific.

The Red Hat Asia Pacific Tour will be in Australia from 11 to 14 October at the following locations:
Monday 11 October 2004
Map Room, Conrad Treasury Brisbane, 130 William Street, Brisbane

Tuesday 12 October 2004
