CHA wins wireless business

- Wireless networking technology has hit the Australian consumer market, with the local release of Proxim's Symphony Cordless Networking Suite.

Computer Hardware of Australia (CHA) announced last week it has scored the Symphony distribution deal with Proxim and the product is already available in leading retail chains, such as Dick Smith, Harris Technology, Harvey Norman, and Myer Grace Bros.

"Symphony has been the most successful solution in the US for untethered networking in small offices and homes and we see it as the leading cordless solution, which is the only appropriate option for the Australian market," said James Robbins, CHA's national marketing manager. "There is a growing need for connecting multiple computers in Australian businesses and homes, and we are pleased to add such a robust and easy-to-use networking solution to CHA's leading arsenal of products for our resellers."

Symphony eliminates the constraints of limited phone jack availability in Australian homes and small offices, allowing PCs and laptops to be located where they are most convenient for the user, the company said.

The product line available includes the Cordless PCI Card for desktops, the Cordless PC Card for laptops, and the Cordless Ethernet Bridge, a stand-alone solution for simultaneously shared broadband Internet access.

Symphony has won awards in several leading IT publications.

Brian Button, Proxim sales and marketing vice president, said: "Our continued success selling into global markets further validates our belief that a cordless networking solution is the only viable option internationally, where so many homes and small offices have multiple PCs, but limited phone jack availability for sharing high-speed Internet access."
