Software vendors providing only traditional, non-hosted solutions, are "bringing a knife to the gunfight" and will miss out on the opportunities coming from the application service provider (ASP) market, warned Solution 6's managing director of ASP services Kent Duston.
Duston said the goal of any software provider should be to achieve "lowest incremental cost per user. The more users you can get on the one box, the better."
Solution 6 is the first developer to join IBM's PartnerWorld program which is designed specifically for ASPs.
ASP Prime, which operates under the PartnerWorld program, offers support for small-to-medium software developers that want to enter the ASP market, said Timothy Wong, Asia-Pacific executive for IBM's global service provider industry.
Wong said ASP Prime would provide survey-based infrastructure assessments and other ASP-related support to independent software vendors (ISVs).
Although IBM already has 45,000 partners worldwide, ASP Prime will target the small-to-medium enterprise businesses containing 25 to 500 seats, he said.
"ISVs should be concerned about the corrosion of traditional models," said Duston.
"In 12 to 18 months every telco and ISV will need to work via ASP," he speculated.
