Australian accounting software provider Solution 6 is keen to add online legal services to its range of accounting software and application service provider (ASP) offerings.
The company has confirmed it is involved in acquisition discussions with Law Point, which provides computerised access to government registries for lawyers and accountants.
Graham Mirabito, Solution 6's general manager enterprises, told ARN the potential Law Point acquisition was part of Solution 6's long-term strategy.
"Our vision for the future shows the increasing convergence of law and accounting, as well as financial services. The purchase will allow us to enhance the range of services to our traditional customer base as well as gain new customers. We also see the need for online services and applications."
Law Point, which has a base of about 3000 customers, allows lawyers and accountants to request and receive online information from government agencies like the Land Titles office or ASIC.
Whether the information is available online or in hard copy, Law Point clients can bundle several requests into one, eliminating the need to send a runner to each department individually.
Mirabito said discussions with Law Point were progressing well and Solution 6 would advise the ASX when negotiations were complete.
