Finding the edge in the Digital age

Finding the edge in the Digital age

Hunter Digital ~ peer to peer

ARN: How was your company started?

Ware: I was a branch manager for Digital in Newcastle and, as a result of their changing sales strategy to a channel-driven sales force, I decided to start up Hunter Digital. Since then it has grown from being just myself to a staff of 15 people. I had 15 years experience with Digital looking after their customers so it was an easy transition to being a reseller.

What products and services does your company offer?

We are predominantly a technology partner for Compaq, providing business solutions to large private and government organisations in northern New South Wales. It is mainly mainframe systems and network infrastructure, such as LANs and WANs we carry out, with products from vendors such as Cisco, HP and Intel. At the moment that includes answering the call for giving companies more bandwidth and getting them onto the Internet. Many companies here also need networks to support their remote branches. We're also starting to develop Web pages and get involved in e-commerce and are finding it is leading us into increased network sales.

How has your business been developing?

We have been assisting customers converting some of their more proprietary networks and operating systems to NT/Unix and TCP/IP solutions. We've developed from being a purely hardware-focused company to a total solutions company. This includes being able to analyse what the business issues are for our customers and matching this with the suitable technology.

What are the company's key business strengths?

We supply grassroots reliability and a commitment to solving our customer's problems.

What areas of technology are you keeping a close watch on?

The intranet - making information available within large companies - and the move towards e-commerce for external trading. Networks are also getting faster and faster, and I see this as continuing to increase all the time.

What does the future hold?

We're looking to at least double our business in the next five years and become solutions-focused, rather than being solely focused on hardware. We're also trying to develop better relationships with our existing customers and work more closely to help them become successful in all areas of their business.profileHunter DigitalBased: Newcastle, NSWEstablished: 1994Staff: 15http://www.hunterdigital.com.au
