The Australian head of Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei says there is still a role for the company in Australia, despite being banned from any participation in the National Broadband Network (NBN).

Chinese communications vendor, Huawei, has exceeded its staff growth expectations for the year in Australia, now employing more than 700 staff across five local offices.

Huawei Australia has backed a new report on the role and potential of the NBN.

Former Victorian Premier, John Brumby, and former Foreign Minister, Alexander Downer, now sits on the Chinese communications vendor’s newly-established board of directors in Australia.

China-based networking vendor, Huawei Australia, has donated equipment and thousands of dollars as part of collaborative efforts with the University of Melbourne’s Institute for a Broadband-Enabled Society (IBES).
