Alphawest has become the first Cisco partner to demonstrate a new element of the networking giant’s Unified Computing System (UCS) to local audiences.

Rackable Systems has completed its acquisition of Silicon Graphics and will change the name of the combined company to SGI, Rackable announced Monday. It hopes the name change helps it expand its business overseas, where SGI is a better-known brand.

Rackable Systems, which is best known for providing servers to large Internet companies such as Amazon, Facebook and Yahoo, is aiming for a bigger slice of the enterprise market with its new C2005 server released Tuesday.
