Australia’s Internet filtering is only step one in a much broader strategy the Government needs to adopt to regulate the Internet, according to an RMIT University academic.

The court stoush between iiNet and AFACT may provide the basis for new legislation addressing online copyright issues, Broadband and Communications Minister, Senator Stephen Conroy has revealed.

Several experts claim the legal dogfight between copyright holders and iiNet will do nothing to appease the problem of illegal file sharing which plagues the entertainment industry.
