In Pictures: NBN rolls into Mt Isa
Construction has commenced in the regional Queensland town of Mt Isa
The National Broadband Network (NBN) has began its journey across the mainland.
The North Western Queensland town of Mt Isa is first mainland site to be involved in the $43 billion broadband network rollout as part of the Federal Government's Regional Blackspots Program.
Communications Minister, Senator Stephen Conroy, attended the official construction launch. Network integrator, Nextgen, has teamed up with sister company, Visionstream, for the implementation of the fibre link.
Mt Isa is part of the 3835km fibre link from Toowoomba to Darwin and will touch more than 162,000, according to Nextgen managing director, Phil Sykes.
