Powerline Devices Grow Smaller with Edimax HP-5101
June 20, 2012—EDIMAX Technology is proud to announce the HP-5101 500Mbps Nano PowerLine Adapter, a miniaturized device capable of transmitting data over pre-existing power cables in walls, thus providing network connectivity without having to install Ethernet cables inside walls or having unsightly wires running everywhere.
The HP-5101 allows users to create a network environment easily and anywhere, by turning existing electrical wires into high-speed network connections. By eliminating the need for complicated cable planning and installation, users can easily expand the network capabilities in their homes or offices. The HP-5101 is also offered in a kit bundle, the HP-5101K, which comes with two powerline adapters, allowing users to set up their powerline network right away.
500Mbps HomePlug AV Standard & IGMP Support The Edimax HP-5101 uses the HomePlug AV Standard, transmitting data over electrical wires at speeds of up to 500Mbps. It is also backward compatible with 200Mbps HomePlug devices, and has a transmission range of up to 300 meters. Additionally, the HP-5101 also supports IGMP multicast streams, allowing users to make more efficient use of network resources, such as for online gaming and video streaming applications. With the HP-5101, users will be able to transfer high-definition video and audio quickly and easily.
Coexistence with HomePlug 1.0 and 1.0 Turbo Devices The design of the Edimax HP-5101 ensures efficient coexistence with devices that use the older HomePlug 1.0 and 1.0 Turbo standards. This means all the devices present in the powerline network will enjoy guaranteed QoS. The HP-5101 and other HomePlug 1.0 stations share the CSMA/CA allocations. This ensures HomePlug 1.0 stations can receive fair access.
Hardware Group/Reset Button and 128-Bit AES Encryption The Group/Reset button on the Edimax HP-5101 allows even inexperienced users to set up their powerline network quickly and easily. Pressing the Group/Reset button will allow the HP-5101 to set up a password for the network automatically, or reset the device to factory defaults. The HP-5101 also comes with built-in compliance with the 128-bit AES encryption standard, offering superior powerline security.
