Virtual WANop acceptance grows with 3,500 VX-Xpress downloads in two months
SYDNEY, Nov. 4, 2011—Silver Peak Systems, the leader in data centre class wide area network (WAN) optimisation, today announced massive acceptance for its Silver Peak VX-Xpress, a free fully-functional virtual WAN optimisation appliance.
The VX-Xpress has been downloaded 3,500 times since its introduction at VMworld in September, providing customers the most cost-effective solution for optimising site-to-site applications over the WAN.
“The overwhelming response proves that virtual WANop with its compelling cost/performance ratio is truly a disruptive market force, and we see it across our entire portfolio,” said Larry Cormier, senior vice president of worldwide marketing for Silver Peak. “Competing products equivalent to the free VX-Xpress can cost tens-of-thousands of dollars from legacy vendors. And at the high end, our VRX virtual data centre-class product is providing 20-times the performance of competitive products at one-third the cost. Virtualisation changes both who uses WANop, and how they acquire it.”
The VX-Xpress is application, protocol, and software version agnostic, allowing customers to optimise any and all enterprise applications. Users share their ‘Cool Deployments’ on the VX-Xpress forum:
Deployment: Veeam Replication Accelerated by 3X
User: SSBrendan, network and storage systems integrator: “Without Silver Peak, the Veeam replication jobs would simply not finish at all. The link was too inconsistent and the Veeam software would lose connectivity and fail the job. The footprint would never complete. Silver Peak enables the job to complete, plus makes it happen in a timely manner.”
Deployment: 7X Improvement and 80% Data Reduction on Satellite WAN
User: RichardMac, IT administrator: “Our remote sites suffer around 600ms of latency across the satellite so this makes it very hard to get data in and out of the remote sites. I have been very impressed with the ease of install and performance of VX-Xpress and would highly recommend it to anyone looking at improving their WAN links.”
Deployment: 92% Data Reduction for Replication using EMC RecoverPoint
User: ankit, storage administrator: “Silver Peak VX-Xpress reduces iSCSI/RecoverPoint 92% and [provides] 13.5X bandwidth gains.”
Deployment: Centralizing Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager
User: kosin.s, IT administrator: “We have Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager hosts in data centre as a parent server, and at the branch office we also have another Protection Manager which is [a] child server to propagate client policy and download definition updates from the parent server. With WAN optimisation in place, I am able to connect the client to the parent server directly without using the child server. [The] optimisation rate is 12.5x faster!!”
Deployment: Branch Optimisation and Hardware Consolidation on Cisco Routers
User: nlertn, IT administrator: “We were able to setup the VX-Xpress using Cisco routers out-of-path on both ends. Now we have the ability to control what goes through it on both ends. It was as simple as setting up a normal out-of-path configuration using the help from the website. Super fast and low bandwidth.”
Deployment: Cool Reseller Tool—WANop Demo in a Box
User: mrhoads, IT reseller: “I can actually create any WAN environment imaginable and fix (or at least improve) it with the VX-Xpress.”
Deployment: Leveraging New Hardware in the Branch (HP Switch)
User: Allansh, HP solution architect: “It just got me thinking about past experiences trying to deploy new services in branch offices, struggling to get components, network cabling, power connections and local non IT personnel to come together in a greater union…deploying VX-Xpress in this scenario was just so easy.”
