Silver Peak carries global expansion into Australasia with offices in Sydney and Melbourne
SYDNEY, Feb 17, 2011 – Silver Peak Systems, the leader in data centre class wide area network (WAN) optimisation, today announced a continued expansion of its Asia Pacific operations with the opening of offices in Sydney and Melbourne.
The move is part of the company’s continued international expansion and will serve as a platform for sales, support, and marketing initiatives in Australia and New Zealand. Silver Peak’s ANZ Manager, Wayne Neich, will lead the company’s strategic growth.
Silver Peak’s founder and Chief Technology Officer, David Hughes, formally launched the trans-Tasman operations at events for media and channel partners in Sydney today. Hughes, who graduated from Wollongong University, has built a reputation for innovative thinking underpinned by 35 patents. Silver Peak is his second Silicon Valley start-up (in 2004).
“The demand for data centre class WAN optimisation is growing rapidly around the globe, and the addition of our new operations in Australia and New Zealand will be instrumental in accelerating customer adoption in the region,” said Hughes.
Leading customers from around the globe have deployed Silver Peak’s award-winning NX and VX appliances, and the recently released VRX data centre class virtual appliances, which scale from Mbps to Gbps of WAN capacity.
The products are designed to optimize all IP traffic regardless of transport protocol and application version. Silver Peak WAN optimisation solutions are key enablers for disaster recovery, data centre consolidation, data migration, server centralization, virtual desktop infrastructures (VDI), and other key IT initiatives.
“Silver Peak is the performance leader on high capacity WAN links,” said Wayne Neich. “With Silver Peak’s WAN optimisation physical and virtual appliances, more than 95% data reduction can be achieved on file transfers. I am truly excited about the compelling propositions we can bring to the ANZ markets, benefiting channel partners and end users alike. We are 100% channel focused and rapidly building a channel through our two distributors, Transition Systems Australia and Observatory Crest Australia and New Zealand.”
Neich added: “Uniquely, Silver Peak solutions are able to fix network errors and packet loss in real time, which is crucial to the Australian and New Zealand markets where carrier services typically endure packet loss of around 1%. The consequences of losing 1 packet in every 100 is constant re-transmission and reduction in effective through put of 80 to 90%. With Silver-peak, customers achieve both network optimisation and receive the full value of the expensive carrier links for which they are paying.”

Market Potential-Strategy Guide to the Active Archive Market
The active archive market is a growing segment where tape is seen as part of a disk or network fileystem. This means that to an end user disk and tape are “blended” and whether file is held on disk or tape is “invisible” to the end user. The active archive market is the fastest growing space in the storage industry and allows direct end user access to tape through a file system front end.
