Silver Peak positioned as Visionary in Magic Quadrant for WAN optimisation controllers
Sydney, January 4, 2010 – Silver Peak Systems, the leader in data centre class Wide Area Network (WAN) optimisation, announced today that it has been positioned in the ‘Visionaries’ quadrant of the Gartner 2010 ‘Magic Quadrant for WAN Optimization Controllers.’ (Gartner, Inc. Magic Quadrant for WAN Optimization Controllers, Severine Real, Andy Rolfe, Joe Skorupa, December 23, 2010.
“2010 has been a year of upward momentum across the board for Silver Peak,” said Larry Cormier, senior vice president of marketing for Silver Peak. “Revenues, customers, channel partners, technology breakthroughs, new product introductions, and global expansion— all evidence of our ability to deliver in a rapidly changing market segment. We believe our placement in the Visionary quadrant reflects that momentum as well as affirms our vision for scalable, high capacity WAN optimisation for data centres, global networks, and emerging private cloud computing.”
Silver Peak’s position in the Magic Quadrant closes out a banner year that included being named to the Wall Street Journal's list of top 50 venture backed companies, broad international expansion, and continued data centre partnerships with Avaya, Dell, EMC, Hitachi Data Systems (HDS), HP, NetApp, and Xiotech. Leading customers from around the globe have deployed Silver Peak’s award-winning NX and VX appliances, and the recently released VRX data centre class virtual appliances, which scale from Mbps to Gbps of WAN capacity. The products are designed to optimize all IP traffic regardless of transport protocol and application version.
According to the report, “WAN optimisation is about improving the performance of business applications over WAN connections. Most networks carry a variety of traffic types of differing characteristics and importance. Many organisations are striving to manage this traffic to optimise the response times of critical applications and reduce costs, given that bandwidth continues to represent a significant proportion of operating expenditure for wide-area data networks. But the cost of bandwidth isn't the only consideration — matching the allocation of WAN resources to business needs is also important. And as resources are increasingly centralised, minimising the effect of latency on application response times is becoming a critical requirement. In addition, virtualization and new application environments such as cloud computing and Web services can put an unexpected strain on the network.”

Aberdeen Group: Building Business Resilience Through Active Archive
One of the key data management challenges organizations often face is how to keep their archived data accessible and active, without spending the time and resources associated with primary storage. The amount of data in the archives can range from one half to 10 times the amount of data actively managed in primary storage. How can end-users gain access to historical files in a reasonable amount of time without pulling IT employees from higher priority projects? Aberdeen's research found the answer in the technologies and processes that comprise active archiving.
Market Potential-Strategy Guide to the Active Archive Market
The active archive market is a growing segment where tape is seen as part of a disk or network fileystem. This means that to an end user disk and tape are “blended” and whether file is held on disk or tape is “invisible” to the end user. The active archive market is the fastest growing space in the storage industry and allows direct end user access to tape through a file system front end.
