Sun Blade 6000 Server
The Sun Blade 6000 Modular System Server offers customers the option of mixing and matching Intel, AMD and Sun's UltraSPARC T1 processors to optimise performance for all applications. In addition, it supports Solaris, Windows and Linux operating systems. According to Sun, it has double the I/O capacity of competing blades and rack-mount servers, increasing the datacentre lifecycle. The 6000 Modular System is ideal for multiple environments including virtualisation and consolidation, Web infrastructure, high performance computing and back office (CRM, ERP, DIDW). Customers can plug up to 10 blades into a single chassis with up to four chassis per rack for a full capacity of up to 320 cores, 2.5TB of memory and 5Tbps usable I/O throughput per rack.Distributed by itX
RRP: entry-level pricing starts at $6155 for the Sun Blade 6000 chassis.
IBM BladeCentre S
Designed for SMBs, the IBM BladeCentre S is half the size of a typical blade system and can sit on a desktop, plug into a standard power outlet, and manage up to six blade servers simultaneously. Featuring integrated hardware and software commonly used by mid-size businesses - antivirus/firewall, VoIP, email, collaboration, backup and recovery and file and print applications - the new system is designed to run in a typical office environment. Configuration is similar to how a consumer would set up a home PC. Following a wizard-based installation interface an administrator plugs the blade servers into the system, plugs the system into a power outlet, and launches a management tool that enables point-and-click configuration via an express or custom install. For businesses operating branch offices - such as retailers or financial institutions - IT administrators can pre-configure hundreds of systems to operate in the same manner and ship them out the door knowing a branch manager will be able to simply plug a system in and power it up.Distributed by Ingram Micro, Cellnet and Avnet.
