Australian ICT income hits $123 billion
Australian ICT income hit $123 billion in 2006-07 according to a survey by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
In figures released this week the ABS said the information media and telecommunications grouping contributed half, $4.9 billion, of total operating profit before tax (OPBT) for all ICT industries, which came in at $10.3 billion. Operating expenses for the same period reached $113 billion.
The survey found there were about 300,000 people employed in the industry. The computer system design and related services grouping accounted for the biggest percentage; 43 per cent or 128,000 people. Wages and salaries for all ICT industries totalled $21 billion.
Capital expenditure for the period hit $9.56 billion – the information media and telecommunications grouping had the largest spend with $7.4 billion, while the computer system design and related services grouping hit $1.2 billion.
The ABS has cancelled its 2008-09 ICT survey due to budgetary constraints and warned against direct comparisons with previous surveys due to a change in methodology.
