3Com AirProtect Wireless IPS

The 3Com AirProtect Wireless IPS extends the protection offered by wired firewall and virtual private network security systems but with a focus on wireless local area networks. These are of increasing importance in a world where the number of mobile workers continues to grow and mobility is extending beyond laptops to include devices such as Wi-Fi phones and other handheld devices. The AirProtect Wireless IPS has been designed to address security threats to corporate information brought on by increasing deployment of Wi-Fi networks. It manages problems caused by deployment of unauthorised Wi-Fi access points that open networks to hackers and exposes information about business operations, customers and products. It continuously scans the airways and provides intrusion prevention against unauthorised Wi-Fi activities. By scanning 62 wireless radio channels, AirProtect Wireless IPS provides denial of service protection against wireless threats and prevents up to 20 simultaneous attacks per AirProtect sensor. The system can also disable all wireless connections, allowing enforcement of "no wireless" policies. It comprises the 3Com AirProtect Engine 6100 and 3Com AirProtect Sensor 5750. The engine itself can support 12 sensors.
Distributed by Ingram Micro and LAN Systems.
