Internode offers free iPhone services at hotspots
Australian ISP Internode has added free access to iPhone services from its wireless hotspots.
According to a statement released by the company any iPhone user can select the ISP’s network from an Internode hotspot and automatically access iPhone services, including; MobileMe’s push email, contacts and calendar; use of Apple widgets like weather and stock prices; and access to Apple’s Google Maps client for free.
Users do not have to load the handset’s Safari browser, and Internode customers can also access their Internode email without the need to log in.
Internode MD Simon Hackett said the free services require a one-off setup for iPhone users.
“This overcomes a real-world problem where advanced services will fail if your iPhone is configured to automatically connect to a wireless hotspot that requires a manual log-on to the Internet.
“Now Internode wireless hotspots recognise a previously configured iPhone and automatically set up WiFi access…the same ‘no login required’ access also extends to using Internode email and Apple MobileMe and iDisk functions from a Mac or PC laptop in Internode hotspots.”
Internode operates over 100 wireless hotspots in South Australia, the Northern Territory, NSW, Queensland and Victoria. Information on their locations can be found here.
