Linux and open source IP telephony system, trixbox Pro, is now available in Australia and New Zealand and is being touted as an enterprise-grade phone system for between five and 500 extensions.

Trixbox Pro is available locally through Insightful Solutions, a Sydney-based open source CRM provider that was acquired by US VoIP systems vendor Fonality late last year.

Insightful Solutions CEO Marc Englaro said trixbox Pro is an affordable, highly functional and scalable software-based IP PABX system that delivers enterprise-class features at small business prices.

Its feature set includes auto-attendant, unified messaging between voicemail and e-mail, conferencing, branch locations, home workers and presence management.

"In addition to traditional PSTN dialling and PBX features, trixbox Pro includes an embedded corporate chat server, advanced call centre features and the ability to integrate with Microsoft Outlook, Salesforce.com and SugarCRM," Englaro said.

Despite being built out of open source components, trixbox Pro claims to have a "unique patent-pending architecture", dubbed "hybrid-hosted" which acts like a hosted solution where users get free inter-office calling, anywhere management, and monitoring, but, like an on-premise solution, customers get PSTN connectivity, and call privacy.

The trixbox Pro core is a fork of Asterisk that Fonality claims has a 600 per cent performance improvement for busy systems with high task concurrency. There are some 40,000 lines of original code in the trixbox platform.

The trixbox Pro product is available now with pricing beginning at $1685 plus $7.05 per month, excluding GST.
