Panasonic has appointed Barry Armstrong as its new national sales manager for its AV and IT business systems group. His first point of focus will be to grow Panasonic's digital signage and projector businesses, both of which have been identified by the vendor as important growth areas.

Panasonic director of business systems group, Mark Deere-Jones, said the company had experienced 180-200 per cent growth in digital signage over the past year. Panasonic had also positioned its projector range to target the commercial market.

"A key role for Armstrong is to ensure there's much better knowledge and skills across our partners in these product areas, which we'll develop with roadshows and the like," Deere-Jones said. As Panasonic positioned itself as offering an end-to-end solution with digital signage, it was important for the vendor to strengthen its sales and service teams, he said

"Armstrong is going to be the driver of achieving our growth plan," Deere-Jones said.

Armstrong previously managed Panasonic's AV/IT sales for WA and SA. Prior to joining the vendor, he held senior sales management roles with Vodafone and Brightpoint.

He replaces Joe Serra, who returned to Samsung in January.
