Kingston Announces Australian Resident as Grand Prize Winner for HyperX Girl Design Contest Amateur Group

Sydney Australia – (June 11, 2008) – Kingston Technology Company, Inc., the world leader in memory products, has announced the winners of their widely popular HyperX Girl Design Contest, a contest for both amateur and professional character designers to create the perfect character model for HyperX memory modules. Australia’s own Adam Potter has won the Amateur Group for his original design of the a woman with a cyborg arm titled only as “Upgrade”

It was a tough competition with total prizes reaching US$19,000 and entries coming from Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam and other countries in the Asia Pacific region. Judging the designers’ works was done through a panel of Kingston management combined with an online voting system. The voting session was carried out from May 5th to 20th, 2008.

Mr. Potter submitted his “Upgrade” design in the Amateurs Group which called upon individuals who are interested in character design in either hand-drawn or computer generated imagery. Designs submitted were judged based on Visual presentation, Creativity and Relatedness to contest theme.

Mr. Potter explains in detail his design: “I figured that since HyperX is a breakthrough in memory technology, it opens new doors to applications and technology that wasn't possible before. In this case, a character that is half human half robot and only Kingston can deliver her hybrid requirements.” Mr. Potter further states: “I’d like to thank Kingston for creating this contest, to let both professional and amateur entries have a chance at designing something for them. Also I would like to thank everyone that voted for my entry and everyone at Kingston that took an interest in my work. Lastly I’d like to thank my friends, work colleagues and family for their support.”

Adam Potter, from the city of Adelaide, works as a Printed Circuit Board designer, technician and software coder and occasionally works on promotional for customers. He won the Amateur Group Grand prize of US$1000 in cash and US$200 in Kingston products. His “Upgrade” model was showcased in Computex Taipei, one of the largest technology and electronics exhibitions in the world running from June 3-7 2008.
