Sony stops production of PSX

GamePro staff (GamePro) 15 April, 2004 11:21:46

According to Japanese weekly magazine, Shukan Gendai, Sony Computer Entertainment's (SCE) HDD/DVD Recorder and PlayStation 2 media system PSX stopped production at the beginning of April.

In response to the magazine, Sony Electronics' public relations spokesperson confirmed that production has ceased, and that production wouldresume depending on how the current inventory sold.

"Depending on demand [for the PSX], we will resume production when necessary," a spokesperson said. "We are currently in the process of adjusting the inventory and assessing when to resume production."

Although Sony projected that one million PSXs would ship by the end of 2004, Japanese market analysts were sceptical. Some said that the system was a publicity stunt that would sell well for a month or two.
