TodayTech screens Philips deal

Distributor takes on Philips LCD monitors to address the high-end market

TodayTech has become the latest Australian distributor for Philips IT Displays' range of LCD monitors.

TodayTech CEO, Jack Zhong, said it had been looking for a tier-one monitors brand that addressed the high-end consumer and corporate markets. The distributor also carries screens from AOC, Mitsubishi, LG and Samsung. The Philips monitors will start shipping next month.

According to Zhong, demand for larger 22-inch and 24-inch LCDs was increasing.

"It doesn't matter if users are buying a desktop PC or a notebook - there's still a need for another monitor," he said. "People are also making the transition from CRT to LCDs and are using LCD monitors for TV viewing."

To encourage this crossover between computer-based work and TV viewing, TodayTech planned to bundle the Philips screens with digital TV tuner cards, Zhong said.

"These [Philips] screens address a different market to our existing monitor brands," he said.

Managing director of Philips IT Displays' agent in Australia Sales Force Australasia, Norelle Blumentals, said it had been impressed by TodayTech's enthusiasm and passion for IT.

TodayTech will sit alongside Philips' other local distributors, Ingram Micro and Synnex, and will push the products out to value-added and corporate resellers as well as retailers.

"We're trying to grow our monitors marketshare and saw this as a good opportunity to add a third, complementary distributor," Blumentals said. "Our focus is on providing high-end monitors - the entry-level part of the market is too cutthroat."
