Industry’s most scalable, secure, reliable multiservice edge platform provides foundation for Infranet edge
Melbourne - 19 February 2004 - Juniper Networks, Inc. today announced the Juniper Networks M320 Multiservice Edge Platform, the industry’s most scalable, secure and reliable 10 Gigabits per second-capable edge routing platform. Supporting both existing and emerging Layer 2 and Layer 3 services, the M320 offers a long term strategic investment for providers looking to transform multiple, disparate networks into a single multi-service network or Infranet. Juniper Networks is also introducing the Juniper Networks Frame and ATM Service Emulation (J-FASE) toolkit delivering the industry’s most complete ATM and Frame Relay service emulation.
"Global Crossing has validated the Juniper Networks M320 and plans to use it in our MPLS-based IP network," said Greg Wallace, Global Crossing's vice president of Network Engineering. "The M320 supports our vision and strategy of a global, converged IP services network and supports the performance, security and reliability needs of global enterprise customers."
Leveraging the Juniper Networks proven and highly scalable service-built architecture, the M320 provides a solid foundation for the Infranet edge. It enables providers to aggregate all traffic and services onto a common IP/MPLS infrastructure to dramatically reduce operational and capital costs. It incorporates a new routing engine, the RE 1600 combined with production proven JUNOS to deliver unsurpassed signaling scalability for thousands of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) and customer interfaces. Its unprecedented forwarding scale and interface density enables the delivery of multiple services to thousands of customers from a single platform, without performance compromise.
The M320 leverages the J-FASE toolkit (Juniper Frame and ATM Service Emulation) to deliver ATM and Frame Relay over IP/MPLS. The M320 will also be supported as a key component of the Lucent/Juniper joint Multiservice MPLS Solution, and the IP VPN Solution. Together, these components deliver the industry’s most complete support for ATM and Frame Relay over IP/MPLS. J-FASE includes new capabilities such as Diffserv-aware MPLS Traffic Engineering and Connection Admission Control for guaranteed bandwidth across IP/MPLS networks. In addition new Operations, Administration, and Maintenance (OAM) tools like bi-directional Forwarding Detection (BFD) enable providers to assure service level agreements. The M320 also supports carrier class Metro Ethernet services including VPLS, per VLAN QoS, and stacked VLANs, as well as tools such as Layer 2.5 Interworking VPNs that support the smooth migration of customer access connections from ATM and Frame Relay to Ethernet.
Investment protection is delivered through support for Physical Interface Cards (PICs) from across the M- and T-series portfolio. In addition the M320 leverages Juniper Networks production-proven JUNOS software, which is common across all Juniper Networks M- and T-series platforms, delivering consistent services to all customers, regardless of location or connection type.
"Providers making the transformation from multiple disparate networks to a common IP/MPLS based multi-service network/infranet need a reliable, secure platform capable of supporting multiple services today with the scaling capabilities to support emerging services as the network evolves. The Juniper Networks M320 fulfils all of these requirements, providing the ideal foundation for the Infranet edge," commented Michael Capuano, senior product manager, Portfolio Marketing, Juniper Networks.
