Techplus takes virtual hold on security

Techplus has brought virtualisation security vendor, Catbird, into its portfolio.

Techplus managing director, Paul Kern, said it had been approached by the vendor because of its existing product range. The distributor’s vendor list includes several security and networking vendors such as Exinda Networks, Barracuda, Proofpoint, Kaspersky and MailRevive.

Catbird’s V-Security products are VMware-certified virtual appliances that deliver network security. The vendor also has a Pocket V-Agent, a USB-based virtual appliance capable of network monitoring for security assessment, inspection and data protection.

“There’s a need for security in virtualised environments and we’re looking for complementary vendors in the virtualisation and cloud computing environments,” Kern said.

Techplus will target resellers selling VMware, he said. The Catbird product was relevant across all market verticals.

Kern claimed systems integrators hadn’t previously been able to secure virtualised server environments, so the product represented a value-add for virtualisation deployments.

The Catbird signing follows the distributor’s partnership with unified thread management security vendor, Astaro, in January.

Kern said there would be further vendor signings to come in the next few weeks.

“We’re not looking to bring on radically different things, and we don't want to bring on too many vendors, but we need to grow our portfolio with products that fit and we have the ability to support,” he said.
