Fibre Channel Moves
Joining forces to educate the market about Fibre Channel technology, the Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA) and the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) have struck an alliance.
The two organisations have created a joint working group that will share and market latest advancements such as port virtualisation, fabric application APIs, inter-fabric routing and security enhancements.
The alliance will complement SNIA's development and delivery of industry standards, such as the Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S) and the eXensible Access Method (XAM) that help deliver more powerful end-user solutions. The transport protocols such as Fibre Channel (FC) and Internet Protocol (IP) play a critical role in helping end users realise the benefits of these standards.
"SNIA recognises Fibre Channel as a mature technology with a robust roadmap of enhancements that will extend the application base of SANs and deliver high performance, investment protection, and value to the enterprise user," SNIA chair of the strategic alliances committee, David Dale, said.
