Enterprise software vendor, Sybase, is looking to expand its partner base by an extra 30 per cent within the next nine months.

Sybase produces database management, data integration and mobility solutions. It has signed on its first Queensland-based partner, Catapult BI, focused specifically on serving business intelligence. Catapult will have access to the Sybase IQ analytics server.

The integrator has a team of 30 staff and specialises in business intelligence. Its target market sectors include banking, utilities, telecommunications and government.

"We needed someone up there that understands the market, what is going on and is able to guide us towards opportunities where we might be able to add some value," Sybase director of channels and alliances, Stephen Dolan, said. "A lot of customers look to us, together with our partners, to not just provide them with software but also a range of services."

Dolan said he was now on the hunt for more partners particularly ones that had data warehouse, Linux and mobility skills within application development, device management and mobile infrastructure requirements.

He highlighted Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane as priority market areas. The company currently has about 65 dealers on its books.

"One thing important to us is finding partners with the right level of skill in the right areas," Dolan said. "We will look to see if we're covering all the right issues and market opportunities. For example, transport and logistics are obvious markets for mobile device play."
