MBS shifts Asian focus to Singapore

Meier Business Systems (MBS) is looking to open an office in Singapore as it attempts to boost overseas revenues. The niche distributor focuses on IBM's UniData and Universe data management products.

CEO, Martin Meier, said it currently earned 80 per cent of its revenues locally with the remainder coming from supplying worldwide partners via offices in South Africa, the US, the UK and Malaysia.

MBS would fold its Malaysian operations once it had a presence in Singapore, according to Meier, who predicted the Asian market could account for 20 per cent of its distribution revenues within two years.

Its range of multilingual ERP and logistics software was recently boosted with the acquisition of supply chain software house, Evolve 360.

The acquisition added valuable intellectual property, Meier said, as well as major customers including Linfox, Australia Post and Mayne.

Meier said he was looking to increase revenues from $12 million to $20 million and would need to add local partners in order to achieve that goal.

MBS was currently formulating a local channel strategy that involved looking for new resellers outside of Sydney and Melbourne.
