Google loves the wired world, but it already owns that. Google's next foray is the wireless world, and it believes that it is manifest destiny to have the same ubiquity in the wireless and mobile world that it does on your wired desktop. So Google stands ready to jump into the spectrum wars because it has an unlimited bankroll. What it does not have are the lobbyists and large numbers of voting employees that can turn Google into a powerful political force. What you will see now is Google negotiating with Verizon, AT&T, etc. for an "openness" where the latter will declare that phones are independent of carriers, and the right to have its services available directly to consumers, whether at home or through any wireless channel.
Verizon and ATT now have a choice. Do they accommodate the interloper, or do they say that they want to have all rights to search just because they financed this 100 Megabit channel?
New Food Fight! Who are you betting on?
