Data capture distributor scans in new deal
Niche distributor and hardware refurbisher will distributor Unitech's barcode products
Matthew Sainsbury 16 May, 2008 13:47:25

Data capture specialist, Opal Technology, has signed on as a distributor for Unitech barcode products.

OpalTec managing director, Stephen Marodi, said the partnership was a good fit with the rest of the company's portfolio.

"Unitech give us a new product offering with lower pricing, which allows us to offer more options and products to a different market," he said.

Marodi said Unitech had supplied directly to Australian customers in the past but had recently identified the need to sign a distributor to increase sales.

OpalTec will be showcasing Unitech products at CeBIT as a part of its marketing strategy. Marodi said its initial focus is to build partnerships around the products.

"We've currently got around a dozen partners signed," he said. "Ideally we'll cover the market without flooding it, and we'll be looking to address as many markets with different partners as possible."

The distributor also runs a refurbishment business for used barcode hardware, including scanners, handheld data capture terminals and printers. "Once people realise that option is there, we find there's quite a lot of demand for refurbished data capture products," Marodi said.

OpalTec established an office in Adelaide in 2004 to meet growing local need for refurbished data capture products. It is looking to expand its workforce from 10 to 15 by November of this year.
