Audiovisual distributor, Audion Innovision, is gearing up to relaunch veteran industry brand, Akai, to the local market.

Audion has been working on bringing Akai back into the market since late last year. Sales and marketing director, Jamie Cox, said the vendor had left the Australian market some four years ago and was now looking to re-establish a presence.

The vendor forms part of Audion's attempt to push into the CE space. Formed in 1929, Akai's product range extends to high-definition TVs, home theatre systems and portable audio and midi solutions.

"It represents the steady expansion of our business," Cox said. "Akai is a known brand for the over-35s for us to make a push towards and improves our presence in the CE space."

Audion will launch the Akai range with product launch nights in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane in August.

"After we've launched Akai and got it established we'll look for complementary vendors," Cox said."Akai has a broad range of products, so vendors we'd be looking at would be those offering emerging technologies and products and furniture products that suit CE, such as TV stands and specialised chairs."

As another part of its expansion plans, Audion formed a partnership with Saratoga last year to improve national reach.
