Linksys updates WRT54G wireless broadband router
Consumer and small business networking vendor Linksys has announced the next generation of the WRT54G wireless broadband router, the WRT54G2.
With an internal antenna, the WRT54G2 has a new form factor inherited from the design of some of parent company Cisco's wireless routers, and can now be displayed "alongside wide screen TVs and Hi-Fi systems, instead of hiding it in the closet or in the study", according to Linksys.
Linksys regional director for Australia and New Zealand Graeme Reardon said the WRT54G benchmark has been improved in areas of performance, ease of use and industrial design.
The WRT54G2 ships with the Linksys EasyLink Advisor (LELA) application, a software package designed to reduce the technical aspects of setting up and securing a wireless network.
LELA automatically checks for updates for Linksys products on the network, and can configure other connected devices and computers.
Security on the WRT54G2 is configured with a WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) button which will create an encrypted wireless connection between WPS-enabled wireless devices.
The Linksys WRT54G2 is available now from retailers for $89.95.
