Secure Computing’s Secure Web Wins Top Honors in Comparative Anti-Malware Study

26 June, 2008 10:29:00

Secure Computing Corporation (NASDAQ: SCUR), a leading enterprise gateway security company, today announced that in an independent test Secure Computing’s Secure Web (formerly Webwasher®) Anti-Malware engine again ranked first place, achieving a near-perfect overall score and surpassing all other leading vendors. Secure Computing’s Secure Web proactively detected 97 percent of the samples with the best response time, scoring higher than all 27 other solutions tested.

The research, conducted by independent AV Test Labs (www.av-test.org) and published in June 2008, tested and scored vendors on proactive detection and response time for the samples that made it onto the Wildlist in the first quarter of this year.

“This is the seventh consecutive time that Secure Web has achieved a top position in a study by AV Test Labs in Germany; one of the most credible and discerning testing houses in the industry,” said Eric Krieger, Country Manager for Secure Computing in New Zealand. “To once again achieve such a near-perfect score, demonstrates that while threats continue to change and evolve, Secure Computing has been consistent in its unsurpassed protection methods.

“The evolving and morphing threats facing New Zealand organisations require accurate, proactive and real-time protection, and with these ranking Secure Computing’s Secure Web has proven to be the best for protecting against new emerging threats.”

“Proactive detection is a much-discussed topic today, but the reality is that even for the reduced set of malware that makes it to the Wildlist, the response time of most antivirus solutions is in the range of hours or even days,” said Andreas Marx, managing director for AV Test Labs. “AV Test Labs continuously monitors the threat detection capabilities of leading vendors in the market, and proactive protection is a must for responsible enterprises.”

Secure Computing’s Secure Web is the industry’s first and only reputation-based Web gateway security solution that protects enterprises from spyware, phishing, malware, data leakage and Internet misuse, while ensuring policy enforcement, regulatory compliance and a productive application environment. Secure Web employs the most sophisticated behavioral- and signature-based techniques for stopping malware, as well as patented content analysis software for stopping data leakage. The solution takes a new and radically different approach to Internet Security, employing Secure Computing’s global reputation-based system and methodology, TrustedSource™. This assigns a reputation to message senders and Web URLs, domains and IP addresses in real-time, providing highly proactive, immediate protection.
