The Australian National Research and Education Network (AARNet) recently held discussions with a group of government and academic leaders over the roll-out of IPv6 in Australia.

The meeting of the organisation known as the IPv6 Project Group was held on July 22. The charter and the group's plans were discussed.

The group plans to lobby university managers to complete Ipv6 deployments before IPv4 address deployments become exhausted.

It will also develop and host technical information for universities and the wider community.

The meeting was co-chaired by Brook Schofield from the University of South Australia, the person responsible for initiating the creation of the IPv6 Project Group.

Representatives from the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), the Asia Pacific Network Information Centre, Monash University, and the universities of Queensland and Southern Queensland were also in attendance.
