KVM Australia has been appointed as a distributor for Canadian USB and DVI extender vendor, Icron.
National sales manager, Kurk Brandstater, said it had been working with the vendor on an ad hoc basis for the past four years but had now decided to take its relationship further.
"We saw a good opportunity in the market and will be distributing all their products. We have about half the range on the shelf but eventually we will carry more," he said.
The WA-based distributor currently carries USB 2.0, wireless USB and DVI over cat5 and fibre extenders. The vendor's USB 2.0 Ranger 442/4444 extenders are powered by ExtremeUSB technology, which helps extend USB 2.0 devices up to 10km over fibre optics at about 480Mbps.
Brandstater highlighted industrial, mining and defence as potential target markets. He is interested in appointing two integrators per state.
"Places such as BHP and defence are ideal users for this type of technology. We want integrators focused on project-based work rather than resellers," Brandstater said.
Partners will be offered a minimum 15 per cent product discount but this will vary according to the type of device and size of project.
